Limber Limbs' previous, self-titled EP was a fair approximation of their name - loose, slightly rootsy guitar music that occasionally made unexpected choices. It was fine, but a little bit dull. It went in the massive file in my brain marked Not For Me and was never heard from again.
'You Know It,' the first single from their forthcoming Retrospection record, throws all of that away to focus on jagged edges and discord. It's very, very welcome. There's a big, buzzy synth line that infects everything else, angry guitars that absolutely will not acquiesce to the pop structure and some little percussion touches that suggest time spent listening to Tom Waits' Real Gone.
Amid all that juxtaposition, the band have still remembered to write a great chorus. This is an impressive transformation at every turn.
