Those who can take the inherent chill of electronic music and imbue it with a human warmth deserve our respect. Stand up Jon Cooper, aka Turtle, for you are one of those people.

There is an obvious line to be drawn from Kid A to It’s a Good Thing, Turtle’s new LP, but it’s not one of worship. Cooper resolutely scratches his own personality into the grooves of his music. By the time the first two tracks have gone by, he has already morphed from ambient, synth-led instrumentals to warped terror-blues.

Had it been on Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes, ‘Just a Test’ would’ve been the best song by some margin. That it’s not the best song on It’s a Good Thing speaks volumes about just how good this record is.
