New Chvrches is shinier than old Chvrches. Not glossier, but shinier. Like chrome. Polished not to pop perfection, but to a sharp, lethal point. Both ‘Leave a Trace’ and ‘Never Ending Circles’ have carried over the lyrical spite and defiance of The Bones of What You Believe, but the latter adds a lumbering menace to the proceedings that aligns them more with Purity Ring than ever before.

So far, there’s only been good things from Every Open Eye. Do I want more experimentation? Yeah, probably, and there’s always room for more darkness in electro, but that’s not really what drew me to Chvrches in the first place. So here’s another immaculately barbed pop song. It’ll sound just as good in two years as it does today.
