It might be turning into spring, but there's enough of a chill in the air to prompt me to turn to  bleaker sounds.

'Snowbird' is patient, just like the cold, content to gradually smother rather than attack outright. AYU capture howling winds within the rising intensity of their vocal harmony, then unfurl a tale of pride, torment and losing your way.

AYU is a Bern / Berlin duo, consisting of Elaine and Eve. They categorise their sound as "between the waves pop," and willingly submerge themselves across the record's four minutes. It's unnerving, but never descends into parody or self-pity.

Their other track available online, 'Astraphobia,' upholds the pop part of their definition, but it's 'Snowblind' that will stay with you long after the melody has dissipated.
